9.30.05 - Nefarian Dead
I'm proud to announce the server first (and something like 6th across all realms) Nefarian kill. And I'm also very happy to see that Blizzard's updates seem to be coming in more frequently. Hopefully Ahn'Qiraj will be a good challenge in the near future. Anyway, I do also want to say we did it without any sort of exploit or questionable tactic with LoS/etc. We also did it without a single dwarf priest (so yea, fearward is irrelevant). Loot:

9.16.05 - Chromaggus Weee
Today we dropped Chromaggus for our 2nd time (after deciding not to kill him a 2nd time before the patch since Blizzard said abusing LoS was an exploit). This kill felt MUCH better than the first. The fight was somewhat challenging, and required a fair deal of coordination and skill. I am also proud to announce that we did not once exploit LoS on this kill. Our tank was hit by every ability he used, and at any point in time when our DPS (melee and ranged) could hit Chromaggus, Chromaggus could hit them. I also have to say I'm glad Blizzard decided to state that using LoS bugs at all was an exploit, now if they'd just go start suspending guilds that are getting kills with their ranged DPS hitting Chromaggus while he can't hit them in return, then I would be happy. In the meanwhile, WTB lube for Nefarious!

9.04.05 - Chromaggus Bleh
Well, Chromaggus is down. I'm not sure what to say or where to start. First off, I guess Blizzard thinks that it's okay to pull a mob to a location where all of its area effects will miss the main tank, as long as he can still melee him. If that's what Blizzard wants, so be it. I had my own personal opinions, and if I ran the game, they would thus be what is correct. However, I don't, so I guess I was wrong. In any case, I don't see how this fight is fun in the least, nor challenging. It's the easiest fight in Blackwing Lair now. I hope that Blizzard changes the LoS issues in BWL and changes his breath attacks to make him possible without this method in the future.

8.20.05 - Bandwidth Exceeded
So apparently our videos being on our server, plus being linked on wowmovies really threw us over our bandwidth limits. We've had something like 150 gigs transferred off our site in the past 5 days. We appreciate everyone downloading our videos, and hope you enjoyed them, but from here out we will be hosting them somewhere other than our own webspace. Currently we're looking for a solution to host them. If anyone wants to help host something as well, feel free to drop me an email at Failure@risen-guild.com. Anyway, I'll edit this post and add mirror links for the innbomb and gnomes videos as soon as I can. Edit: Now have the files uploaded, I'd like to thank warcraftfiles.net for hosting these for us.

8.18.05 - 3rd Drake Down
Risen managed to drop Ebonroc today for another server first before our instance timer reset. The ability to use taunt on these drakes seems to have made them quite a bit easier. I'm a little sad we didn't manage to drop Ebonroc before this change. Unlike the drakes, Chromaggus appears to be quite a challenge. He's definitely doable, but still a bit harder than any other boss in BWL, which makes sense of course. On a side note, we wiped in MC for the first time in a while 'cause the server crashed on an imp + surger pull...so then we all went and made lvl 1 gnomes on Elune and put up quite a show. It culminated in the death of Hogger to around 30-35 lvl 1-2 gnomes. [Video Link Removed]. And today's loot:

8.17.05 - Blessing of the Day: Wisdom!
Blessing of Salvation is old news now, but Blessing of Wisdom generates some small amount of aggro for the paladin that cast the spell on EVERY SINGLE TICK! Wow, alliance needs a serious nerfing. Anyway, thanks to this wonderful observation (and only because of this overpowered spell of course, we're alliance n00bs, we have no skill involved in any of our kills), we are proud to announce that Flamegor has been dropped on Alleria. Just 2 more bosses (one of which we've made significant progress on) until we've caught up to the top guilds realmwide. Anyway, if you see the shoulders listed below, don't get them, they are fugly when you put them on (they look like a double Herod's Shoulder). But enough with the typing, here are the drops people came to see (the Interlaced Shadow Jerkin was from a trash mob).

8.16.05 - So we found this new spell, Blessing of Salvation...
...and because of that, we were able to just instantly destroy Firemaw. That's just how powerful Blessing of Salvation is! In all honesty we did do one attempt tonight without Salvation ... and it pretty much went the same as the attempt before it ... and the same as the attempt after it ... but we finally got our strategy working, and after a wipe at 5%, on our next attempt, we dropped Firemaw. Unfortunately, we were unable to continue on to attempt Ebonroc or Flamegor. If they are as trivial as everyone says they are, expect another update here tomorrow (but only because we recently realized how powerful Blessing of Salvation is and think it's so powerful we're putting it on all our warriors tomorrow also!).

8.13.05 - Broodlord Down
After going into a fresh Blackwing Lair instance, dropping the new Razorgore again, and dropping the "new" Vaelastrasz for the first time (yet getting another wonderful Rune of Metamorphosis), we found ourselves face-to-face with Broodlord once again...his new version anyway. To make a not-so-long story short, he dropped on the first attempt. Firemaw proved a bit more challenging and basically wtfpwned us. I'm much happier with BWL in it's current state than in previous ones. There is still some amount of randomness to Vaelastrasz (if he hits all your tanks with BA randoms, you wipe), yet it's overcomeable. The only sad thing is now we can't use Burning Adrenaline to blow up the IF Inn...but that's another story for another day (complete with video!). Will update the site with that when it's ready.

7.28.05 - GG Gate, you're pwnt!
After waiting 30+ hours for Alleria to come back up from Tuesday's maintenance, we logged on to the pleasant surprise that all raid timers had been cleared. Thus, last night we went back into Blackwing Lair and managed to drop Vaelastrasz the Corrupt. In all honesty, I don't think a guild that knows what they are doing will be unable to drop Vael within the 1 hour timer, however, I still believe a guild can do everything personally and can wipe due to some bad luck. In any case, Stakato got a nice FRAPS of us beating the gate. Be sure to have your sound on! Anyway, it was nice to be able to at least finally see some of the content I've been paying for. Of course, I had to turn every graphic setting down to essentially nothing in order to operate, but I'm willing to forgive that for now. Looking to drop Broodlord Lashlayer tonight. Oh yea, on a final note, who the fuck designed these class trinkets? We've known how much some of them suck for a while, but it gets a bit more frustrating when ya finally beat this boss that you can't even attempt more than a few times per week, then that damned Rune of Metamorphosis drops.

7.12.05 - Blackwing's Lair
Current progress:

Razorgore the Untamed: Killed at 4:44 p.m. with 32 people.

Vaelastrasz the Corrupt: Killed at 5:18 p.m. with 31 people.

7.26.05 - ...
Well, after a week, I've slightly changed my opinions on Blackwing Lair. I still think it's quite lame, and I still think anyone that thinks that bad luck cannot ruin either of the first 2 encounters has no clue what they are talking about. That being said, some amount of skill does help for sure, but you still need to have mediocre luck to beat either. Nobody can beat the first encounter if they get constant dragon spawns, and nobody can beat Vael if they get Burning Adrenaline on all their warriors and healers from the start. That being said, we managed to get Vael down to 4%, 3% and 1% before being locked out of BWL for the rest of the week. We should easily be able to progress next week with some fine tuning. It's still makes me sad that a month down the line, I can see guilds still wiping on these encounters because of some bad luck. I still think it's lame, but oh well. And for the record, there was quite a bit of sarcasm and exaggeration in the previous post as well, so don't take it too seriously.

7.15.05 - The gate was too hard
Well, as many people know, Blizzard recently changed their mind and decided the third encounter (the one with the gate) in Blackwing Lair was too difficult, so they decided to tone it down a bit when they were accused of blocking content. Awesome, right? We can go play this content we've been waiting months for. Wrong. Before I flame Blizzard too much though, at least they realized it's wrong that a team of 5-10 people could nearly kill the first boss in their 40 man raid. So anyway, they changed the first 2 encounters.

The first encounter is now all about dumb luck and lag. This is perhaps the first time I remember ever seeing people claim lag as the reason they succeeded at endgame content. But when the server lags and the spawns lag, and it gives you more time to do what you need to do, it does make sense. And then of course, the other primary reason for success is dumb luck. Two types of mobs spawn during this event: dragonkin and orcs. The orcs have almost no HP, the dragons have 1-2 fucktons. Which mob spawns appears to be ENTIRELY random. So when you see your first 4 as dragons, you just say gg and pull out the lube. When you see orcs spawning constantly, you realize lady luck is with you and dominate (in a way) the event. Most every guild who has defeated this encounter has done so on an attempt with many more orcs and less dragons than average. Thanks, I like encounters where I get to retry until the spawns go in my favor. But ya know, I could deal with that if it was just a slight change in difficulty based on spawns. But the worst part of this encounter is the strategy in it. Perhaps there's a trick to be found still. I am glad that nobody "beat" it in the first day really, but unless some method to control the encounter is found, I will be sorely disappointed. Anyway, I say "beat" in quotations because the current strategy to defeat this encounter is just to try to fear and kite the mobs around the room as they slowly overwhelm you (due to more dragons than orcs spawning). So if you manage to do a good job making the mobs run circles around the room, and you reach the point of the encounter where they are scripted to despawn, you win. If you try to fight, or control the encounter one bit, you get overwhelmed before this happens. What brilliant individual decided to work this encounter that way? Come on Blizzard, give us a fight that requires some sort of talent, where our gear and ability to work well as a team shows. Sure, some guild that can't drop Lucifron can't do this now, but if that was the goal, why not just require Majordomo or Ragnaros to have been dropped for someone to zone into BWL. Ah well, give it time, and we'll all get past this encounter. But it does say something when some of the most well known high-end guilds can't beat the encounter. In my opinion, they should cut the spawns back just a bit, destroy the randomness of which mobs spawn (leave location random perhaps, but make it set what type spawns), and get rid of that fucking retarded script that makes the mobs despawn.

And now, the great Vaelastrasz. The encounter started out "cool." "Cool" of course means "OMGWTFBBQ I'm a god for 3minutes," which is pretty much what made people like the encounter. Who is gonna complain about unlimited mana, rage, or energy? Anyway, the fight was a blowoff, of course. So Blizzard needed to tweak it. First off, I can almost buy that an ability wasn't functioning correctly, I mean, that shit happens when you don't believe in any sort of internal testing, but where did this taunt immunity come from? Oh right, I remember, they nerfed the door, and the law of conservation of cockblocking says that "Cockblocks cannot be created or destroyed, only change location." So yea, he's immune to taunt with an ability that autokills any player, regardless of stats. Now ya know, I could live with the deathtouch. Use a little skill and planning, rotate tanks, and you have a challenging encounter. Take off the ability to taunt, make it one of the heaviest DPS fights in the game, AND remove the ability to taunt, and you now have russian roulette. Three cheers for randomness again. But of course, they also add the change that if you don't defeat him within 1 hour of engaging him, he leaves his lair for the remainder of your 6 day lockout. Hmm, why would...nevermind, cockblock. But don't worry, Blizzard now plans to change that to once per day. Of course they claim that's how it was supposed to be...yet didn't bother to alert us until the players began to bitch, and yet now the excuse is that it requires a patch to change it to one day. To me, that implies that they were well aware of how it would work. That's about it for now...I will end on a note that it seems convenient that everything in this game seems to be "working as intended" right up until the day they change it. But I guess that's the definition of intent.

7.13.05 - BWL Humor
I just wanted to post this gem of a picture up. What do you get when you cross a guildleader named Failure with a dragon in BWL?

7.12.05 - 1.6 Disappointment
We all went in to today's patch expecting to experience a great new raid instance that would be challenging and fun. However, after managing to combat the standard patch day problems, we ended up in BWL with just over 30 people and began working on the first fight. Don't get me wrong, the first fight was definitely unique and fun, but there wasn't much challenge to it. Going in to the fight knowing nothing, after a mere 2 wipes we had figured out exactly what needed to be done and how to do it. On our third try, we managed to defeat Razorgore. Continuing on to the second room, we encountered Vaelastrasz. Blizzard currently claims that some of his abilities are not functioning properly, and we'll see if he gets any harder in the future, but with only 1 wipe (as we had no clue what to expect and what he would do), we managed to drop him with just over 30 members as well. At the time, many guilds had not even began to raid BWL due to lag, or just waiting until later in the day for people to get off work, however, some guilds such as Ascent managed to drop both bosses with just as much ease before we did. As time went on, more and more guilds reported dropping these first 2 bosses without many serious problems (lag aside). What happened to the hard instance we were promised? Well, see, after Vaelastrasz dies, there's this gate, and to put it bluntly, the gate pwned us. We spent more time running around the 2 rooms we had cleared and trying various things to open this gate than we did to defeat the first 2 bosses. After many hours of trying and talking to a GM, we gave up for the night. But rest assured, we'll be back tomorrow to attempt to down the mighty door. Anyway, BWL was supposed to make guilds that could barely kill Ragnaros stop dead in their tracks, and that's so far from what actually happened, it isn't even funny. I realize this was just the first 2 rooms, but I expected to be challenged from the start. Perhaps time will show the rest of the instance is harder than the first. We can only hope that we haven't wasted the past several months waiting for a blowoff instance.

6.13.05 - Quotes

Every guild I've ever been in had awesome quotes. The problem is this guild talks mostly on ventrillo so I don't get to take awesome screenshots. But i dug deep and while some of them are old i found some funny quotes! So enjoy!

This is what happens when everyone is competing on damage meters:

Neail and I have been camping this guy for ages:

I really need to start paying attention to whats going on in guild chat:
